I crawl out of the ether to share this with you, the ethereal echoes of somebody somewhere’s nostalgia. An earworm of another lifetime:

The artist: Anish Kumar
A Cambridge-educated veterinarian putting his degree to use — tending to unruly party animals at Glastonbury, Desert Air and the like. Diving into some of his other works1, he proves himself to be a dynamic artist with a penchant for poetry. It’s no wonder he’s caught the attention of folks like Four Tet and Barry Can’t Swim, and I have a feeling this is just the beginning.
Find him on Instagram, Resident Advisor, and Soundcloud.
The Song: Everything Blooms Around Her
While the driving heartbeat of the song is a crisp 130 bpm, ideal for slipping into a flow-state playlist, the thing that intrigues me is the soul of the song: the sample of Bakemono Gurung’s cover of Herana Hera Kancha, a popular Nepali folk song.
According to a Youtube comment on the original vocal cover, the lyrics are about “cherishing and valuing love and relationships, with elements of expressing feelings through flowers and songs, as well as a desire to make the other person happy.” (ChatGPT roughly agrees that the lyrics are about the complexities of human connection2.) For me, I hear an optimistic ode to love, longing, and the small joys of life; a universally resonant sentiment. Anyway, I’m obsessed with this song right now, and I hope it inspires you just as much.
