You get what you ask for in life
Welcome to part 1 of 3 of my coverage of SXSW.
This Sunday, I have some wise words to part. (I swear I heard Oprah say this on her show when I was a kid. I cannot find internet evidence of this happening, so let’s not attribute this to anyone.)
You get what you ask for in life.
And what I want is for these indie discoveries playing at South by this year to go on tour with these slightly more well-known musical acts. Here’s my wishlist:
Ama Boua by AfrotroniX
Already famous in Chad, and discovered in Europe a few years ago, this Montreal-based producer draws similar impressions to Imarhan, from the other side of the Sahara, or Khruangbin, albeit more electronic and club-friendly than both. They'd pair well.
Illuminar by Poranguí
Here's an idea for a music festival: magical, healing music performed amongst the redwoods of northern California. Yoga and meditation sessions in between sets. Puranguí would be there, along with amiina. Of course, Joanna Newsom would headline.
Sniffy Woe by Sixteen Deluxe
They have the right grunge-to-charm ratio to tour with Alvvays and enough rock chill to hang with Chastity Belt. Was not surprised to find out this is a local Austin band.
Happy listening,
Angela
