That’s a tattoo I saw on someone this last weekend:
serendipity
It was in cursive and located somewhere on a torso, I don’t remember.
At a music festival, the opportunities to find serendipity are boundless. What is serendipity anyway but a lucky combination of good timing and lack of expectation. Here are two serendipitous moments from last weekend:
Makeba by Jain
Walking from the jungle/zoo/house music of DJ Seinfeld and the sunset rock show put on by Bob Moses, we passed by the Gobi stage and was pulled into the liveliest, warmest, most experiential and fun show ever. Having never heard a single “ooh-wee” in my life and having no idea what any of the words were or what a “Makeba” was, something about the music told me exactly how I should dance. It’s shame the studio recording doesn’t quite capture her Coachella show, which had the buzz of a show of this size, but the intimacy of a show like this. But better than both because it took place outside, and this is indubitably an outside kind of song.
Windowlicker by Aphex Twin
I share this song not because I heard it, but because this is the closest recreation of the [ ] vibe, but in actuality the show went like this. And in actuality, I have a hard time describing what the [ ] vibe is. Words that come to mind are the following: erratic but rhythmic, intentionally jarring, hypnotic, and I guess experimental. I’ll also have to admit that the only Aphex Twin song I’d heard before last weekend was Avril 14th and I knew nothing but to not expect Avril 14th. After all, it was only the 13th of Avril.
Happy listening,
Angela
