confession: I'm a girl group groupie
Last weekend I went to a Masonic Temple to pay dues to indie god Passion Pit and found myself wonderfully enamoured by the opener: The Beaches.
I don’t know what Jordan, Kylie, Eliza, and Leandra are like off the stage, but on the stage they embodied such badass, kickass, high-kicking (literally), high-energy and über cool personas. Not to mention, Jordan (the lead singer) has an incredible range and a voice that goes really well with the alt-rock guitar sound and the arrangement of their songs were so well-balanced.
For an opener, they did their job by hyping up the crowd but honestly I would've loved to see them headline. After all, openers are never given the full stage service (cool lights! full volume! props!) like the headliner.
This week is dedicated to the girl groups that are headliners in my heart:
Gold by The Beaches
not their most popular song, but a good example of the personas I talk about above
Easy by Hinds
not their newest song, and not their most representative song but a personal fav
Stranger by Stonefield
not the first song I heard of theirs, but Love You Deserve isn’t on Spotify anymore
Happy listening,
Angela

P.S. - I would’ve included BLACKPINK and Destiny's Child, but remembered this is an indie music newsletter.
